NOTE : RUBY that has been lab-created is real Ruby (corundum) with the same properties as natural Rubies. These gorgeous lab-created rubies mimic the vivid pigeon blood color of the finest Burmese rubies. They are VVS in clarity, and this means there are no inclusions visible to the naked eye.
VERMEIL (pronounced: vermay) is Solid '.925 Sterling Silver' plated with 14K Yellow GOLD. Vermeil is a great choice for persons with allergy to Silver.
Why Vermeil instead of Gold-Filled? The diffeence is the thickness of the Gold, and the type of base metal used. We requested our master jeweler to use 14K Yellow Gold Vermeil for 3 reasons. 1) 14K Yellow Gold is a lot harder than 18K or 24K, so the plating look beautiful and it will last and last. 2) The 14K Yellow Gold plating will prevent the Sterling Silver base metal from tarnishing, like other Silver jewelry items do. 3) Vermeil's base metal must be Sterling Silver, whereas Gold-filled base metal is copper, zinc, or anything else. Since we want our Hidden Mickey pendant to be beautiful, yet affordable, and last for generations, we only saw one metal choice... and that choice is 14K Yellow Gold Vermeil.
