Meet the
Authors of
Hidden Mickey
Nancy Temple Rodrigue
Nancy has been an avid Disney fan ever since she was 6 years old and went to
Disneyland for the first time with her family. She and her Father were
infatuated with the park and would make excuses to visit every chance they had.
Her huge collection of memorabilia is a testimony to this. Nancy has been
writing stories most of her life and wrote her first novel back in 1989. With
Tomorrowland as an influence, many of her stories were of the science fiction
variety. Those who know Nancy well will remember her Star Trek years! The Star
Trek novels she wrote remain unpublished, but her friends that read them say
they thoroughly enjoyed the experience. HIDDEN MICKEY* is Nancy's first published
work, and it certainly will not be her last. She is currently working on a new
novel having a slightly different Disney twist, and a series of Disney themed
Children's books.
Nancy grew up in Modesto, California, and now lives with
Russ, her husband of 16 years, and they live
in Lompoc, California, a small town surrounded by the beautiful Santa Rita Hills
wine region. Russ grew up at Disneyland since he lived only 1 mile away in
Anaheim, California. From the time he was 5 years old, he has been able to
experience first hand the evolution of Disneyland from it's beginning back in
1955 until now. Both Nancy and Russ can even say they own a little piece of
Disney, since they are members of the Disney Vacation Club. You'll notice
award-winning cars in part of Hidden Mickey's story line, these cars are real,
since Nancy has a beautifully restored Classic 1957 Ford Thunderbird and Russ a
gorgeous 1923 Ford T-Bucket street rod, both are shown at Special Book Signing
Events and Car Shows. Besides their regularly scheduled business trips to
Disneyland, they also go for sheer pleasure with or without grandkids.
Nancy and her co-author Dave Smith have been good friends since 1981 when they
first met at Disneyland, where Dave worked.

David W. Smith
Having worked at Disneyland in the late 1970’s, Dave experienced first-hand the
inner workings of the park and the many wonderful inspirations that were
cultivated within the mind of Walt Disney. Dave always felt a special
connection to Disneyland, growing up just a couple miles south of the park in
Garden Grove and seeing it evolve and grow to what we now recognize as the
destination resort it has become. Dave believes everyone who has ever had
a dream can relate to Walt Disney’s own dreams of “doing the impossible.”
While most of us never fulfill our dreams to the extent Walt did, we all can
imagine just how he must have felt walking down Main Street, USA of Disneyland,
taking in all that he had done. However, while most of us would have felt
a sense of accomplishment, knowing Walt as we know him today, he, most likely,
would have been thinking of something new or doing something better…instead of
being satisfied his success.
As
a former High School Teacher and Tennis Coach, Dave's personal team win-loss record of over 1000 team wins
against less than 25 losses is one of the most successful U.S coaching records.
He has taught over 3000 players including over 100 state, national or
world-ranked players. David Smith's 30-plus years of teaching includes a
wide variety of successful venues.
Dave Smith is the author of two top-selling tennis instructional books, TENNIS
MASTERY* and COACHING MASTERY* and is the Senior Editor of the world’s top-rated
tennis website, TennisOne.com, and
a featured writer - publishing over 100 articles including feature pieces for
USPTA's ADDvantage Magazine, Belgium's "Tennis & Coach" magazine and other
articles written for the worldwide recognized website for tennis instruction.
Dave has been a featured speaker at USPTA, National Honor Society and many other
tennis conferences, clubs and workshops. Dunlop Racquet Sports Recognizes Dave
as MASTER Professional, and he was previously recognized as one of only 40
Premier Tennis Professionals by Prince Sports, Inc. and Wilson Racquet Sports.
Dave currently owns
Top
Notch Tennis Academy in St. George, Utah.
While
Dave authored more than 100 tennis articles over the past 8 years, HIDDEN
MICKEY* is his first venture into writing novels.
Dave has also parlayed his expertise in the art of Magic, using his magician
skills to educate pros and entertain audiences around the country with expert
close-up and slight of hand magic. In addition, David is a bass and guitar
player who has played in several bands when he lived in Southern California.
David has been married to Dr. Kerri N. Smith for 20 years, currently a
practicing Pediatrician in St. George, Utah. They have two children, Kyla Marie
(10 years of age and featured in several of Dave's articles on training
junior players), and Keaton Bruce, six years old.
